Restock: Opel Blitz

2133-action-webcard-710

About the Opel Blitz:

The Opel Blitz was the name given to various German light and middle-weight trucks built by the German Opel automobile manufacturer during 1930-1975. During the years preceding WWII, Opel was a subsidiary of General Motors. By 1934, there were four base versions offered of the 1-ton basic model, along with 14 versions of the larger 2 and 2- ½ ton trucks. From 1939, the reliable Blitz 3.6 three-ton version was used in large numbers by the German Wehrmacht during WWII.

In 1952 Opel presented the basic model in a modern rounded design, reminiscent of US pickup trucks. In the following years, Opel produced various vans and trucks with petrol engines, which was much less economical than diesel engines. In 1968, Opel finally offered a 2,100cm Indenor XDP 4.90 diesel engine, but it came too late to regain lost market shares. In 1975, the production of Opel commercial vehicles ceased.

Specifications:

  • Type: Multi-purpose medium utility truck
  • Country of Origin: Germany
  • Initial year of service: 1937
  • Production Total: 95,000 units
  • Maximum Speed: 50 mph (80 km/h)
  • Maximum Range: 255 miles (410 km)
  • Crew: 2
  • Weight: 2.3 US Short Tons (2,100 kg; 4,630 lb)
  • Power: 1 x Opel 6-cylinder gasoline engine with 74 horsepower
  • Armament: Usually none; occasionally armed w/ 7.92 machine guns, 20mm or 37mm cannons for anti-aircraft protection

Additional information about this Brickmania custom building kit:

The Opel Blitz comes with the following features:

  • Initial production run in classic “Wehrmacht” dark gray color
  • Includes custom printed national insignia, blackout headlamps, license plate and “Ogel Blitz” elements
  • Opening cab doors, tail gate and bed side gates.
  • 1/35 scale to match other Brickmania models.
  • Includes 267 genuine new-condition LEGO® bricks and BrickArms® elements
  • Intermediate Skill Level (4-6 years of experience with LEGO is recommended)

New Release: Crusader Mk III – World War II Cruiser Tank

Crusader Mk III - World War II Cruiser Tank

About Crusader Mk III – World War II Cruiser Tank:

Unlike the heavier tanks produced by Germany, America, and the Soviet Union, the British specialized in “cruiser” tanks. As the name might suggest, a cruiser tank was relatively faster than most other tanks, trading armor and firepower for speed. These tanks were often used for reconnaissance and flanking. The Crusader MK III was the first to be fitted with a six-pounder gun, equipping it for better survival when in direct combat with German panzers. The Crusader was a key component of Allied success during the North African campaign against Erwin Rommel and the Afrika Korps. The Crusader was largely replaced in 1943 with newer models such as the Cromwell.

Specifications:

Speed: 27 mph (44 km/h)
Crew: 3
Engine: Nuffield Liberty Mark IV V12
Range: 100 miles (160 km)
Armament: Six-pounder main cannon (57mm, 2.24 in), 7.92 Besa MG
Radio: Wireless Set No. 11
Production: 5,300 1940-43

Additional information about this Brickmania custom building kit:

The Crusader Mk III – World War II Cruiser Tank kit comes with the following features

New Release: WWII Red Ball Express Driver

WWII Red Ball Express Driver

A logistics miracle, the Red Ball Express deployed thousands of trucks on a one-way loop supplying troops at the front. Because of unit segregation, 75% of the drivers were African-American, many of whom had never driven a truck before. After only a few hours of instruction, these men became the backbone of the Express. Operating 24 hours a day, it is estimated that over 900 trucks were moving on the route at any given hour.

The WWII Red Ball Express Driver comes with a BrickArms OD Green M1 Steel Pot helmet.

WWII USAAF Ground Crewman

A behind the scenes job, the ground crewman was responsible for maintaining and preparing aircraft for upcoming missions. This job often required long hours, as World War II-era aircraft could be finicky and full of bullet holes. From loading bombs to refueling, the ground crewman was an essential piece of the American war machine.

2268 M18 Hellcat Action Webcard

About the M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer:

Its official designation was the M18 76mm Gun Motor Carriage and was the US Army’s only purposely designed vehicle whose primary function was killing enemy tanks. Priority was given to mobility and firepower at the expense of armor protection, traits for which the Tank Destroyer units developed special tactics. During the Battle of the Bulge, M18s used their speed to secure key crossroads in advance of enemy units, helping to turn the tide of battle. While the tank destroyer doctrine would be abandoned after World War II, the M18 could still boast of the highest kill-to-loss ratio of any US armored vehicle during the war.

Specifications:

Weight: 19.5 tons (17.7 metric)
Armament: 76mm Gun M1A2, Browning .50 cal M2HB
Armor: .2-1 in

For those interested in a bit more about the Sherman Jumbo…

About the M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo WWII Heavy Assault Tank:

The most famous Sherman Jumbo of the entire 4th Armored Division, “Cobra King” with the “First in Bastogne” inscription on its side was the first of U.S. General George S. Patton’s Third Army to break the German lines surrounding Bastogne, Belgium. A critical turning point in the Battle of The Bugle.

As for the tank variant itself, interestingly enough the name ‘Jumbo’ does not appear in any military documentation and is likely a post-war nickname. The “E” in the tank’s designation stood for experimental, as the U.S. Government sent the tank straight to combat without the standard time-consuming testing regime.

Specifications:

  • Crew: 5 (commander, driver, co-driver, gunner and loader)
  • Propulsion: Ford GAA V8, 500 hp
  • Speed (road): 35.4 km/h (22 mph)
  • Range: approx 160 km (100 mi)
  • Armament: 75mm/76mm gun, .50 (12.7 mm) HB M2 machine gun, .30 (7.62 mm) M1919A4 machine gun
  • Armor Maximum: 177 mm (7”)

Additional Information about this Brickmania® custom building kit:

Featuring a newly designed chassis and updated turret configuration, Cody has pulled out all the stops for this epic Cobra King Sherman Jumbo. Adorned with an iconic “First in Bastogne” inscription sticker, builders have the option to create the specific tank or a more generic Jumbo, depending on preference. Also included is a set of double-wide track links (as opposed to the 1.5-wide) to illustrate the grousers commonly used to increase traction on Sherman Jumbo. Additionally, the kit incorporates a brick-built barrel lock and spotlight, with three opening hatched and a variety of tools attached to the side. Featured BrickArms® include a 57mm Barrel, M2HB, and .30 Caliber Ball Mount (short). Printed elements involve a coaxial machine gun, ammo crate, .50 cal ammo box and more.
