Brickfete560

Brickmania will make our fourth appearance at Toronto’s Brîckfete next weekend (public days are July 19th and 20th… starts earlier for exhibitors). Brîckfete is Canada’s first and largest LEGO® fan event and this year promises to be the biggest one ever! We’ll have a booth featuring Brickmania’s custom kits, custom minifies, and of course a large selection of packs and loose BrickArms. Here are some of the Brickmania kits I sent in advance. We have a few left over items from last year being stored for us – all of which is now sold out in our web store.

Brickfete2560

This selection of custom minifigs was sent up for our booth earlier this week. These are all the minifigs we have for the entire event, so get there early for the best selection!  We do have a vast array of packs and loose BrickArms for those who’d like to make their own.  Keep in mind that Brîckfete is moving to a bigger location this year – and now with free parking!

Graduates

We graduated our first class of Boot Campers today and are happy to report that all of our graduates completed their project objectives with flying colors!

Camp03L

Each student spent time in class learning the fundamentals of robotics and programing and then translated that into hands-on building projects.

Camp01L

The students learned the fundamentals of robotics by building and programing their first robots. They used this experience to build an autonomous robot of their own design, which was used to complete a set of objectives. The students demonstrated their projects to an audience of family members prior to graduation.

The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robotics Boot Camp is the first project of the new Brickmania Education program, designed to teach STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curriculum in a fun and hands-on environment at the Brickmania Toyworks. We currently have space available in all five remaining weeks of camp, but they are starting to fill up as additional students sign on every day. We plan to develop additional after school, weekend and evening programs and classes and of course are looking forward to advanced level Robotics camps next summer. Click HERE to see the currently available camps.

“We’re hoping for good weather…and the M2M crowd will be here as well, so come and swap stories and stoke up on cakes!!

13 pounder

The Ordnance Quick Firing 13 Pounder (weight refers to the weight of the shell) was developed as a light, rapid-firing artillery piece for use by British and Commonwealth cavalry. During World War One, the 13 pounder saw service on all fronts and was widely praised for it’s high mobility and lethal effectiveness. However, once the mobility of open warfare gave way to static trench lines, the QF 13 Pounder would eventually be phased out in favor of the more powerful 18 pounder.

The QF 13 Pounder has the following features:

  • Gun details include seats for two crewmen, deployable lower gun shield and collapsable hand spike
  • Includes custom figure with cloth jacket by MMCB and accessories by BrickArms
  • Separate ammunition limber has opening door
  • 1/35 scale to match other Brickmania models
  • Over-all color is new dark gray
  • Includes 75 genuine new-condition LEGO®, BrickArms® and MMCB elements
  • Sophomore Skill Level (2-4 years experience with LEGO is recommended)

RSO mit Flak 38 (Styer Raupenschlepper, Ost) limited to just 100 kits!

RSO

The RSO (Raupenschlepper, Ost – or “caterpiller vehicle east”) was borne out of the need for tracked utility vehicles to keep German troops supplied on the roadless, muddy Russian frontier. Based on a Steyr medium truck chassis, the RSO used a simple “slack track” system that was for more reliable and easy to maintain than the complex interleaved road wheels on most German tracked vehicles. Introduced in 1942 as a supply vehicle, it was quickly adapted for multiple roles due to it’s ease of navigation through the alternating frozen or muddy conditions on the Eastern Front. The RSO was widely produced during the war and was also present on the Western Front in large numbers.  Our version mounts the 2cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft cannon, but the gun can be removed to transform this vehicle into a carge carrier.

Due to limited available of certain pieces, this kit will be limited to just 100 copies!

Vietnam War-Era Searchlight Jeep with Light Effects from Brickstuff

Searchlight Jeep

During the 1960’s the US Army assembled anti-aircraft defense battalions as part of the growng conflct in Vietnam. One of the key pieces of equipment was the searchlight JEEP, which mounted a 100 million candlepower AN-GSS searchlight on a M151 1/4 ton Utility Vehicle. While the perceived threat of air attacks by the North Vietnamese never materialized, the  searchlight was an invaluable piece of equipment used for night time base defense. The lights would be used to sweep the parimeter in IR (infra red) mode, then siwtched to visible light when a target was pinpointed, then reduced using heavy fire from machine guns, M-55 quad or M42 “Duster” batteries.

We have assembled a limited number of Searchlight Jeeps to augment our previous line of Vietnam War era military vehicle kits. Brickmania’s 1/35 Scale USS Nicholas Featured on Beyond the Brick

$

I brought my newly completed 1/35 scale model of the USS Nicholas to Brickfair, Virginia in August. In spite of a savage mauling inflicted to the model during transit, the “Nick” was rebuilt and displayed, attracting a large crowd throughout the event. The guys at Beyond the Brick made this little video clip showing off some of the ship’s details.

The USS Nicholas was one of the most decorated ships in the US Navy during World War II, thus earning a place escorting the battleship USS Missouri into Tokyo Bay to accept the surrender of Japan, ending World War II. I am also planning to build the much larger battleship over the winter and display the two ships at commemorative events in 2015.
